Social Media Manager

  • Founder-Led Personal Brand

  • 1099 Contractor, Full-Time or near Full-Time $60,000–$120,000 annually based on experience and location.

  • New York preferred, not required

Overview

I’m a founder (Freshly & Petfolk), operator (Petfolk co-CEO), and investor (Cutting Horse Venture Capital), building a long-term, founder-led personal brand (The Advantage Newsletter & Wise Track Podcast) focused on startups, decision-making, operating fundamentals, and long-term thinking.

Social media is the distribution layer, not the product.

This role is for someone early in their career who is exceptional at social growth, editorial judgment, creative execution, and modern AI-powered workflows. You will own my social presence end-to-end across LinkedIn and Instagram, with TikTok as an emerging channel and X used solely for repurposed distribution.

This is not a traditional social media manager role.

This is a high-ownership role for someone who thinks like an operator, has strong taste, uses AI fluently, and treats distribution as a compounding system rather than a posting task.

If hired, there will be no agency. You are the system.

The Objective

Over the first 12 months, your primary objectives are to:

  • 2–5x growth on LinkedIn (11.5K followers) and Instagram (3.5K followers)

  • Get TikTok off the ground as a consistent organic channel

  • Turn the podcast into a repeatable, compounding distribution engine

  • Build durable content, production, and distribution systems

  • Protect credibility and signal quality at all costs

Growth matters. Credibility matters more.

What You Will Own

You will fully own social execution, creative production, and podcast distribution strategy.

This role combines editorial judgment, creative direction, and growth execution.

1. Strategy and Editorial Judgment

This is the most important part of the role.

You are responsible for:

  • Deciding what gets posted and what does not

  • Framing ideas clearly, confidently, and natively for each platform

  • Developing repeatable formats that scale without diluting quality

  • Knowing when not to post, even if the content is available

  • Challenging ideas internally when something won’t translate on social

This role requires taste, restraint, and judgment. We optimize for signal over volume.

2. Podcast Social Strategy and Distribution

You are responsible for turning the podcast (coming in March) into a growth and distribution asset, not just content.

This includes:

Upstream Strategy

  • Partnering with the podcast team on guest selection, prioritizing guests with aligned audiences and real distribution potential

  • Helping define what “good” looks like for a guest from a distribution perspective

  • Identifying social-first moments to capture before and during recordings

Social Editing Direction

  • Defining clear guidance for social edits, including: – Hooks – Clip length – Framing – Pacing – Platform fit

  • Reviewing social clips and providing actionable feedback to editors

  • Continuously improving clip performance through iteration

Guest Distribution and Collaboration

  • Designing a guest distribution plan for each episode

  • Coordinating with guest social teams to maximize joint distribution

  • Providing guests with clear assets, guidance, and timing

  • Tracking which guests and formats drive meaningful downstream engagement

You are expected to actively shape what gets produced and how it is distributed. This is not a passive coordination role.

3. Content Packaging and Execution

You will:

  • Turn podcast, newsletter, and long-form inputs into social-native content

  • Shape hooks, framing, and captions using AI as a force multiplier

  • Create and edit light design assets, carousels, and short-form clips

  • Ensure content feels native, thoughtful, and intentional

Heavy copywriting is not required. Strong judgment and framing are.

4. Creative Shoots (1–2 per Month)

You will fully own creative shoots from start to finish.

This includes:

  • Defining the strategic purpose of each shoot

  • Determining required formats and deliverables in advance

  • Sourcing and coordinating photographers, videographers, and editors

  • Building production schedules and shot lists

  • Directing content capture with specific social outputs in mind

  • Overseeing post-production through final, social-ready assets

Shoots are not exploratory. They are designed for distribution outcomes.

5. AI-Driven Workflow

AI is a core expectation, not a bonus.

You will:

  • Use AI extensively for ideation, drafting, iteration, and analysis

  • Build repeatable prompt systems and workflows

  • Continuously improve speed and quality through better tooling

  • Progress toward light automation over time

We care about outcomes, not tools.

6. Publishing, Community, and Analytics

You will:

  • Own posting cadence and scheduling across platforms

  • Engage thoughtfully in comments and DMs

  • Identify high-signal interactions and escalate appropriately

  • Track performance weekly

  • Translate insights into concrete changes

What You’ll Be Given

You will have strong raw material:

  • Weekly podcast recordings

  • Social-ready podcast clips

  • Monthly photo and video shoots (which you will lead)

  • Weekly newsletter

  • Blog posts and long-form essays

Your job is not to generate ideas from scratch. Your job is to decide what deserves distribution and how it should show up publicly.

What This Role Is (and Is Not)

This role is:

  • High ownership

  • Judgment-driven

  • Creative and analytical

  • Systems-oriented

  • Built for someone obsessed with improvement

This role is not:

  • A scheduling role

  • A paid media role

  • A passive content coordinator

  • A brand marketing role

A growth-hack or virality-at-all-costs role

  • Are early in your career but have already shipped a lot

  • Have helped grow social accounts meaningfully

  • Understand how podcasts fuel social distribution

  • Are comfortable directing creative talent

  • Have strong taste and editorial instincts

  • Use AI fluently and thoughtfully
